The Flamethrower Fighting Vehicle (Project “Object 564”) is a Russian heavy armored personnel carrier based on the T-72 tank, designed for flamethrower troops. The rear compartment can hold 7 flamethrowers who can fire through gun ports without exposing themselves to enemy fire.
The vehicle uses the chassis of the tank without changes to the body, except for the combat compartment and roof. A box-shaped armored superstructure is installed above the combat compartment. The result of this design is an autonomous flamethrower vehicle with increased protection for the crew.
It is designed for use in fighting well-fortified enemy fire positions. The crew consists of a commander, a driver-mechanic, and a flamethrower team. The flamethrowers are the main striking force of the vehicle (unlike a flamethrower tank), firing through gun ports without exposing themselves to enemy fire. It is intended to transport 7 flamethrowers armed with 30 RPO-A “Bumblebee” flamethrowers.
The front part of the hull contains a fuel tank with a capacity of 347 liters, and four additional tanks with a total capacity of 961 liters are located in the side boxes of the hull.
