The T-90 Vladimir is a modern Russian main battle tank. It was created in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a deep modernization of the T-72B tank, under the T-72BU index, but in 1992 it was adopted under the T-90 index. The T-90 index was assigned to the vehicle by personal order of the President of the Russian Federation.

Small-scale production of the tanks began in the same year, and as of 2010, according to various sources, the Russian army had between 250 and 500 T-90s in service.

In 2000, the supply of these tanks to India began, and since 2010, the licensed production of the tank at Indian factories. There are plans to increase the number of tanks of this type in the Indian army to 1657.

In 2006-2008, contracts were also signed to supply the tank to a number of other countries, including Algeria and Saudi Arabia.

The cost of the new T-90 under the contract for supply to the Russian army is 70 million rubles per unit as of 2010; in March 2011, another cost was announced – 118 million.
