From 19 to 20 May 2021, the “Maritime Strategy of the state. Development and Implementation of Maritime Potential of Ukraine” annual international scientific forum was conducted at the National Defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cherniakhovskyi in a blended format: face-to-face and online.

The purpose of the event, which was organized by the Department of the Navy of the NDUU, was to discuss current issues of national and international security in the Black Sea region, the development of naval capabilities of Ukraine and identify ways to resolve them.

Anatolii PETRENKO, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration, in the course of delivering his introductory speech for the participants of the event, confirmed the urgency and timeliness of the forum. The specific tasks for the scientists and experts were identified as well at the forum.

Within the framework of the forum, two conferences and three workshops covering the issues in accordance with the agenda were held. In particular, the international scientific-practical conferences were devoted to “Development of the State Maritime Strategy in the Conditions of Hybrid Activities of the Russian Federation in the Azov-Black Sea Region: Formation and Implementation of the Crimea Platform Potential” and “Development of Naval Armaments and Military Equipment Policy of State: Current State and Prospects”. The workshops covered the following issues: “Development of the state naval capabilities in view of acquisition of NATO membership of Ukraine as a NATO partner with enhanced capabilities (EOP)”, “International legal aspects of maritime security in the Azov-Black Sea region” and “Naval history of Ukraine: problems and development prospects”.

The representatives of state and military administration bodies, namely the Office of the President of Ukraine, committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea, the Office of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and other ministries and scientific and research institutions joined the forum.

In general, more than 110 people joined the event, including a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 6 Doctors of Sciences and 25 PhDs.

As the result of the forum, a collection of propositions will be developed, as well as all the materials will be provided to the public and military authorities for consideration in decision-making on the implementation of the state maritime strategy and development of the naval capabilities of Ukraine.
