Within the framework of educational activities, in accordance with the Regulations on the  pedagogical (methodical) procedure of experiments at the National Defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cherniakhovskyi with students of the Institute of Troops (Forces) Support and Information Technologies majoring in "Organization of engineering support of troops" within the course "Use of military units (units) of engineering troops" comprehensive workshop "Organization of combat use of engineering troops according to NATO standards (procedures) was held."

The purpose of the pedagogical experiment was to study the process of complex formation of students’ special professional competencies in planning, modeling, and management of the military unit (unit) of engineering troops, taking into account NATO standards (procedures) based on the use of interactive teaching methods.

Classes were held based on Training Command Posts and the Center of Simulation Modeling with involvement of leading experts. The feature of the lesson was the intensive use of modern information technologies, its comprehensive nature, and full use of NATO standards (procedures).

The students worked out practical issues in the role of commanders and officers of the headquarters of the military unit and units of engineering troops. Issues related to the planning of the use of engineering units during stabilization operation with the use of The Training Troops Automated Control System "Slavutych", modeling and management of the mission in real-time using the system of Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation (JCATS).

According to the results of the pedagogical experiment, the hypothesis on the effectiveness of conducting comprehensive practical classes was confirmed, the distribution of time for working out educational issues was specified, the ways of improving the methodology of conducting practical classes were substantiated.
