During the week, the officers of the Joint Chiefs of Staff L-3 Course were trained according to NATO standards in the English Language on Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC). The classes were conducted by the officers from the Educational and Research Center of the Strategic Communications in the Sphere of National Security and Defense of the National Defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cheniakhovskyi, the representatives from the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Denmark and representatives of the Foreign Languages Education and Research Centre who have experience in the peace and security support operations in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Republic of Iraq and other countries.
Involvement of the foreign advisers and the Ukrainian officers with a rich practical experience gives the students an opportunity to get acquainted with the best combat experience and knowledge. Classes were interactive. Students gained not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills in organizing and conducting negotiations at various levels, methods of assessing the civil environment and analysis of the socio-political situation. The role and place of the civil and military cooperation in the structure of the Armed Forces, the basic principles and functions of CIMIC, as well as the tasks, procedure and features of the operational planning process related to CIMIC activities at the strategic, operational and tactical levels, work and interaction with international organizations in the area of armed conflicts, the legal and regulatory framework, the NATO policies and doctrinal documents were considered.
After the classes, Lieutenant Colonel Jens Jacobson, noted the high involvement of students, their interest in the issues of the civil and military cooperation and their appropriate level of English language proficiency.
