The Advanced Distributed Learning Working Group (ADL WG) held workshop in Skopje, the Republic of North Macedonia

From 22 to 25 April, the Advanced Distributed Learning Working Group (ADL WG) held its first workshop of the season in Skopje, the Republic of North Macedonia. The workshop emphasized the progress made by nations and institutions comparatively new to ADL, and also focused on the visioning training technology in the next 20 years and application to language training.

The event began with a meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mrs. Radmila Shekerinska, who wished the participants inspiration, creative success and productive cooperation.

During the work of the group, a number of issues related to the prospects of developing distance learning technologies were discussed. Participants shared information about the experience of their ADL technology implementation in the educational process.

There were discussed in details the use of xAPI and training analytics, the use of the NTGTG IT & ED ADL Handbook, support for training with MADLx, the cessation of Flash support and related difficulties, the views of the learning process in the 2030s and the role of artificial intelligence today and in the future.

Aaron Presnall, Paul Thurkettle, Geir Isaksen, Piotr Gawliczek, Greta Keremidchieva made presentations with actual information about modern vision and developments in the field of distance learning.

Representative of National Defense University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cherniakhovskyi, Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Shapran, presented a report on the state and views on the further implementation of distance learning technologies in the educational process of the University and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on current and future projects, on international cooperation in this area of activity.

The workshop welcomed participants and speakers from 19 countries. The representatives of Kazakhstan and Ghana took part in the event for the first time.

The next workshop will be hosted by Germany in November 2019. Preparations to make this workshop also a success are already underway.
