PDCELT, the Professional Development Course for English language teachers (NDUU PDCELT) was successfully finished at the National Defence University of Ukraine on June 18, 2021. The purpose of the course is to update and enlarge the professional competencies of English language teachers of higher military educational institutions and military training units of higher educational institutions of Ukraine in the fields of organization of language training and foreign languages teaching methodology.
The PDCELT course is an important part of the system of standardization of language training in military universities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with the requirements of the NATO Standardization Agreement STANAG-6001. PDCELT was created on the basis of running the Cambridge University ICELT Course for more than 10 years. It was a sustainable, effective and efficient Course run by qualified trainers from the FLD certified by Cambridge University. More than 80 graduates received certificates from NDUU and Cambridge University and praised the effectiveness of the course. The PDCELT program is a training program developed by the staff of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Foreign Language Training and Research Center in accordance with the best practices of ICELT-Ukraine and needs of teaching English in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The PDCELT course, which began on March 1, 2021, consisted of three modules conducted both off-line and on-line on the university's distance learning platform. All training sessions of the course were conducted in English by trainers certified by the University of Cambridge. Each student was assigned a personal tutor from among the trainers of the courses, under whose guidance the written and practical tasks were performed.
According to the results of the final lesson, the students showed a high level of acquired knowledge and confirmed the acquisition of competencies in the field of organization and methods of teaching foreign languages, ensuring a thorough knowledge of the contemporary methodological achievements in language training and applying them into practice.
