The newly appointed High Level Strategic Advisor of the Committee for Reforms of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Republic of Lithuania, Major General (retired) Vitaliyus Vaisknoras, formerly the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Lithuania, a military representative Lithuania in NATO and the EU visited the National Defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Chernyakhovskyi.
During the visit, the Strategic Adviser met with Deputy Comandant of the University for educational affairs, Major-General Serhii Salkutsan.
Also the Defence Attache at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Colonel Algirdas Norkus, and NATO Counselor for Reforming Military Education at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Rolandas Kishkis attended the meeting.
- Before leaving for Ukraine, I communicated with the Minister of Defence, the Commander of the Armed Forces, and other high-ranking officials. And I want to express a common opinion - Lithuania is ready to continue to fully contribute to the development of Ukraine's military potential. Also, we are interested in fighting experience of your country in confrontation with Russia. Together, we are working to ensure that the Eastern part of Europe is protected and secured, - said strategic advisor Vitaliyus Vaisknoras.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the experience of reforming the Armed Forces of the Republic of Lithuania, the process of transforming the system of command and control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with NATO standards and the issues of military education development.
The main attention was focused on the issues of improving the system of military education, further steps on the development of bilateral military cooperation between the educational institutions of the armed forces of both countries, in particular, on joint projects initiated by the National University of Defence of Ukraine, the Baltic Defense College and the Military Academy of the Republic of Lithuania.
