06.09.2021

On September 6, the first group of students started their week-long training course on organization and methodology of foreign language instruction in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, hosted by Foreign Languages Education and Research Centre of the National Defence University of Ukraine named after Ivan Cherniakhovskyi.

The course is being attended by 16 military members from different military units and command organizations who will be assigned language training instructors to deliver English language instruction programs at their duty stations.

The course is held for the first time to meet the requirements set forth in the "Roadmap for improving language training in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2021 - 2025)", endorsed by the Minister of Defence of Ukraine in December 2020. This English language training project which is to be carried out by foreign language instructors, will commence in January 2022. It has been included in military training program to help personnel maintain their English language proficiency levels, increase the English language communication capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in order to achieve Partnership goal G-1200 "English language proficiency requirements" of the Annual National Program Ukraine – NATO.

The course is being taught by a team of teachers who have worked as instructors of ICELT, the former Cambridge University-lead international English language teacher professional development course.

It is important that the current training of instructors who are going to provide in-service English language training in military units will essentially accelerate achieving interoperability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with NATO and Partner nations’ forces in specified areas.
