The XIX-th International Week on "NATO beyond the Brussels Summit and the Challenges of the 21st Century", organized by the NATO Defense College (Rome, Italy) and the NATO School (Oberammergau, Germany), which were held at the National University of Defense of Ukraine named after Ivan Chernyakhovskyi, has ended.
Strategic and operational level students of the NDUU, representatives of military educational institutions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies, representatives of non-governmental organizations were involved in the International Week.
Significantly, it was during the event, on April 4, that NATO celebrated its 70th anniversary.
The program of the International Week Course was developed in accordance with the requirements of the University curriculum. The event is devoted to the analysis and discussion of key issues that contribute to shaping the views on the modern security environment and the challenges of the 21st century. The topics of the International Week focused on the outcome of the 2018 Brussels Summit, the transition of the hybrid warfare, the NATO crisis management processes and operations planning, with the view on civilian control over military actions and NATO standards as a way of defense and military adaptation. In addition, defense logistics, defense planning and the organization of the national and military management system were discussed.
Summing up the results of the weekly international event, the deputy head of the University for educational work, Major-General Serhii Salkutsan emphasized that for the National Defense University personnel these days were extremely useful and expressed the hope that during the course of the work foreign partners had an opportunity to be sure of the sincere interest of the Ukrainian side in deepening of the cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
He also expressed gratitude to all his foreign colleagues for the high level of organization during the event.
"We have the honor to be partners of such a progressive educational institution in Ukraine, the National Defense University," said the Dean of the NATO Defense College Dr. Steven Mariano. - For ourselves, we have received a great opportunity to understand the directions of further development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "
- The XIXth International Week has become a unique multi-faceted platform for dialogue and interesting discussions. This is an experience that inspires further reflections and ideas. It is crucial to continue to develop and implement them in their practical work. "- said the Dean of the School of NATO, Colonel Brian Hill.
The functions of the International Week are fulfilled in accordance with the rules of the Royal Institute of International Relations Chatham House (UK): "TO TEACH HOW TO THINK, NOT WHAT TO THINK!" Information and education are key factors for achieving an important relationship between politics, strategy and action. Increasing the compatibility of the Armed Forces with the armed forces of the Allies in this context is one of the most important tasks. The International Week is part of the powerful political and advisory support provided by the NATO to Ukraine.
