The NCO Leadership Course (is an integral part of the multi-level NCO training system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is designed to conduct training courses for the qualification enhancement and preparation of Senior NCO personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Course provides training for the Senior NCOs personnel from all branches and troops (forces) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as representatives of the National Guard of Ukraine and the State Special Transport Service of Ukraine.

Main tasks of the NCO Leadership Course
  • The main tasks of the Course include organizing and conducting Advanced and Senior NCO leadership courses at the battalion, brigade, and higher levels.
  • Participation in organizing and conducting qualification enhancement courses (preparation, retraining) for contract servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  • Additional tasks of the Course include studying and summarizing the experience and best practices for implementation in the NCO training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, coordinating the branch’ NCO training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and NCO military colleges in terms of standardization and unified approaches in providing Basic and Intermediate leadership courses levels (for platoon leaders, platoon’s and company’s sergeants).

Learning process
At the leadership courses, the educational process is facilitated by instructors who have experience in performing duties at Senior NCO positions, along with academic staff from the university's structural units (departments).

The main goal of the courses is to develop the military personnel's personality, their leadership qualities, and to shape them as commanders capable of critical thinking, making balanced decisions, managing entrusted units, and leading subordinates effectively

During the courses, participants acquire knowledge about:
  • The role and functions of the battalion, brigade, and higher-level Senior NCOs.
  • The position, role, functions, and tasks of Senior NCOs in various types of military combat.
  • The functions and tasks of the unit/formation Sergeants' council, its rights, and responsibilities.
  • Military traditions and their influence on the activities of the military unit.
  • The distribution of responsibilities and duties between the Senior NCO and the battalion commander, as well as their deputies.
  • Conduct rules during official events and ceremonies, including international ones, as well as etiquette rules.
  • Procedures for the Senior NCO's involvement in the professional development of subordinate NCOs.
  • Risk management principles.
  • Information protection rules and requirements for electronic information security.
  • NATO tactical symbols and their application on maps.
  • Principles of making military decisions at the battalion level using procedures adopted in NATO member countries – Military Decision Making Process (MDMP).
  • The process of generalizing and implementing combat experience.
  • Procedures for conducting assessment and certification of military personnel.

The requirements for course participants
The requirements for course participants are determined by various legislation acts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as by the standards of training for leadership courses at Advanced and Senior NCO levels.

In total, starting from 2018, over 400 individuals have undergone training according to these programs.
