The Institute is an independent structural subdivision of the National Defence University of Ukraine.

The mission of the Institute is to train leaders of strategic and operational levels on the basis of national combat experience, best practices of NATO member states and support other military educational institutions in training specialists in professional military education courses. The Institute is subordinated to the Commandant.

Institute Tasks

  • professional military education for strategic and operational level officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defence sector of Ukraine;
  • participation in the education of military specialists under the Master’s Degree and Doctor of Philosophy programs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defence sector of Ukraine;
  • participation in the education of military specialists of foreign countries;
  • participation in the advanced training of military, employees of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, officials of other components of the security and defence sector of Ukraine and civil servants;
  • conducting scientific, technical, and innovative activities in the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defence sector of Ukraine;
  • development of the regulatory, legal, and educational material and technical base for educational activities;
  • ensuring the cultural and spiritual development of the individual, educating personnel in the spirit of patriotism and respect for the Constitution of Ukraine.

Professional Military Education Courses.

Senior Strategic Leadership and State Policy Course (L-5) is to enable students to better formulate a strategy for responding to the challenges of russia’s aggressive policy. The course is aimed at developing a common vision of the modern security environment and creating a forum for generating and sharing new ideas, enhancing the ability of managers to better manage subordinate institutions and ministries.

The course will help to strengthen and support further interaction of course participants in interagency activities aimed at protecting Ukraine’s national interests and international security.

The course graduates will receive a badge.

Strategic Level Senior Leadership Course (L-4) is designed to provide a strategic level of military education for military officers of the Security and Defence Sector of Ukraine.

The aim of the course is to develop competencies to reasonably develop and adopt innovative strategic decisions in the field of national security and defence.

The L-4 course is aimed at mastering the basics of strategic level leaders, modern international relations, strategic management, defence management, training and employment of security and defence forces to deter and repel armed aggression, as well as methodological approaches to strategy development.

The L-4 course will focus on improving the quality of strategic decisions made in the course of performing official duties (MRO, COPD – strategic level).

Graduates of the course will receive a certificate of professional qualification “Strategic Officer” and a badge.

Operational Level Joint Staff Officer Course (L-3) is designed to provide an operational level of military education for military officers of the Security and Defence Sector of Ukraine.

The aim of the course is to develop competencies to effectively perform the duties in the joint staffs and reasonably apply the procedures for operational planning of troops (forces).

The L-3 course is aimed at mastering the fundamentals of operational level leadership, operational art, defence planning, force generation, training and employment of troops (forces) in joint operations.

The L-3 course will contribute to the successful performance of officers in operational level positions in joint staffs (OPP, COPD OPP, COPD – operational level).

Graduates of the course will receive a certificate of professional qualification “operational level officer” and a badge.

Mentors.

A mentor:

  • conducts individual work to develop in students a new style of military leadership, patriotism, dedication to military service and service to the Ukrainian people, integrity and readiness for professional activity;
  • directly participates in all training sessions with students, in particular on topics related to the practical experience of combat operations by military formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defence sector of Ukraine;
  • personally conducts practical classes and training with the students of the group;
  • works on timely and high-quality preparation of students for classes, ensuring independent work of students, maintaining interaction with faculty;
  • organizes registration and work of students on the ADL platform, access to the electronic library, monitors the implementation of individual tasks and reporting measures in the distance learning system;
  • organizes work in the study group aimed at qualitative mastering of the course curriculum content;
  • participates in diagnostic questionnaires, current and final control of students’ knowledge, summarizes the results of control together with the course director, module directors and academic staff;
  • The Senior Mentor of the Institute coordinates the activities of mentors.
