The Department of Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops was established on March 1, 2010, as the legal successor to the former Department of the Air Force, following organizational restructuring at the University.

It is a core structural unit of the Institute of Aviation and Air Defense at the National Defense University of Ukraine. The department conducts educational, methodological, scientific, and scientific-technical activities within designated specialties and specializations and is subordinated to the Director of the Institute of Aviation and Air Defense.

The department comprises: the department’s leadership, academic and teaching personnel, and an educational laboratory.

This structure enables the department to fully implement its educational, methodological, scientific, and technical functions.

The Department of Anti-Aircraft Missile Troops provides training for officers to obtain the Master’s degree in the field of knowledge K “Security and Defense” in the following specialties:

  • K5 “Military Management (by branches of the Armed Forces)” – specialists in combat employment and command of anti-aircraft missile units;
  • K6 “Troop (Force) Support” – specialists in the organization of maintenance and repair of armaments and military equipment of anti-aircraft missile forces.

The department’s main tasks include the implementation of educational activities to ensure:

  • participation in the training of military specialists obtaining the second (master’s) level of higher education in specialties K5 “Military Management (by branches of the Armed Forces)” and K6 “Troop (Force) Support” and qualifying as operational-level officers;
  • participation in the training of military specialists at the second (master’s) level of higher education in all specialties, with qualifications at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels;
  • participation in the training of academic and scientific personnel at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education (Doctor of Philosophy) for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations established under Ukrainian law in the field of knowledge K “Security and Defense,” including specialties K5 “Military Management (by branches of the Armed Forces),” K6 “Troop (Force) Support,” K7 “Armaments and Military Equipment,” and other relevant specialties offered by the University, as well as participation in the training of Doctors of Sciences;
  • participation in advanced training courses and professional military education;
  • conducting methodological activities;
  • carrying out scientific, scientific-technical, and innovative activities through research projects, scientific-practical conferences (seminars), development of scientific publications, and other forms of scientific work, with integration of research outcomes into the educational process;
  • developing and improving the legal, regulatory, and material-technical base to support educational, scientific, and technical activities;
  • promoting the cultural and spiritual development of individuals, and fostering the patriotic upbringing of personnel with respect for the Constitution of Ukraine.

Graduates of the department hold senior positions in anti-aircraft missile units and at various levels of military command. Many graduates have been awarded national and departmental honors for courage, heroism during the russo-ukrainian war, and for excellence in service.

Under the guidance of the department's academic staff, four Candidates of Sciences and three Doctors of Philosophy have been trained.

Faculty members regularly publish research works, including in journals indexed in international scientometric databases such as Scopus, and actively participate in academic conferences and seminars, including international ones. They are also involved in research and development projects, the creation of utility model patents, and submission of innovation proposals.

The scientific potential of the department includes five Candidates of Military Sciences, two Doctors of Philosophy, and academic staff holding the academic titles of Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow.

The department's officers actively participate in the execution of combat and special missions in the defense against russian aggression.
