ZSU-23-4 “Shilka” is a Soviet-made self-propelled anti-aircraft system designed to provide direct air cover for ground troops, destroy air targets flying at speeds up to 450 m/s at distances up to 2500 meters and altitudes up to 1500 meters, as well as ground (surface) targets at distances up to 2000 meters from a standstill, from a short stop and in motion.
The 3SU-23-4M-A1 is a Ukrainian modernization that has been developed by Arsenal since 2015. The Soviet radar and analog computer system have been replaced by a modern radar with a digital antenna array called Rokach-AS. The radar has the function of automatic target tracking. The navigation system was upgraded, and a passive digital optical-location system with television and thermal imaging channels and a laser rangefinder were installed. One of the modernization options involves the installation of a missile channel - four short-range Strela anti-aircraft guided missiles. According to the developers, the effective range of the system has been almost doubled.
In 2019, the 3SU-23-4M-A1 “Shilka” passed decisive departmental tests.
One of the most effective means of combating Russian kamikaze drones “Geranium-2” (Iranian Shahed 136) is anti-aircraft artillery systems ZSU-23-4 “Shilka”. A significant advantage of artillery anti-aircraft systems is the relatively “low” cost of hitting a target compared to even such missile systems as the “Wasp”.
