The 2A36 Hyacinth-B is a 152-mm towed gun. In November 1968, the Design Bureau of the Machine-Building Plant in Perm began developing a new 152-mm gun with an extended range. From the very beginning, it was designed in two versions: a towed version, designated as 2A36 or Hyacinth-B, and its 2A37 version for the 2C5 or Hyacinth-C self-propelled artillery system.

The chief designer is Yrii Kalachnikov. Prototypes of the guns were field tested in 1971-1972, and the gun was put into service in the soviet army in 1976.

Even today, the 152-mm 2A36 gun fully meets modern requirements: it has a high firepower, is reliable and mobile, can be transported over any distance by railway, water and air transport, and is capable of performing complex tasks in all types of combined arms combat.

According to foreign military experts, the 2A36 gun (in the towed version) has the longest range (40 km with a rocket-propelled shell) of any artillery system of a similar caliber (152 mm) ever put into service in the ussr and russia since the mid-20th century, second only to the 203-mm SPS 2S7 or Pion (47.5 km with a rocket-propelled shell).

The gun is designed to suppress and destroy enemy manpower, firepower and military equipment on the march, in places of concentration and in strongpoints. The gun is suitable for use in a variety of weather and climatic conditions.

During the tests, it was successfully used in temperatures from -50 °C to +50 °C.

The gun is equipped with a semi-automatic wedge, a hydro-pneumatic accumulator using recoil energy, a chain delivery system for separate delivery of a projectile and a cartridge case with a charge to the barrel chamber, a pallet with a hydraulic jack for firing with the suspended wheels, and a two-speed vertical guidance mechanism.

The 2A36 gun has a 152 mm rifled barrel. The length of the barrel with the muzzle brake is 8197 mm.

The shassisare biaxial with a spring-loaded suspension.
