In the early 1950s, a special design bureau of smoothbore artillery development under the leadership of Borys Shavyrin began developing an 82-mm recoilless gun with the following capabilities and qualities: weight of no more than 100 kg, armor penetration of 200-250 mm, and the ability to hit a target at a distance of 4000 meters.

Subsequently, the B-10 recoilless gun, which used the principle of a dynamo-jet gun, was adopted in 1954. Serial production was organized at the Tula Machine-Building Plant, where the B-10 had been manufactured until 1964. The gun was equipped with a tripod carriage, which had a removable wheel track, and was used to move the gun by the crew.

The gun was used in various local conflicts.
