Today, the Air Force is the shield of Ukraine’s skies. Behind this shield lie the safety of our cities and villages, the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure and the lives of millions of Ukrainians. This shield is upheld by pilots, air defence personnel, radar troops specialists, unmanned systems operators, engineers, technicians and everyone who defends Ukraine’s skies day and night. Since the first moments of the full-scale invasion, you have defended one of the most critical fronts of this war. Behind every peaceful morning in Ukrainian cities stands your tireless work through the night. Every repelled air attack, every destroyed missile or enemy drone, and every successful combat sortie means lives saved, homes preserved and another step towards Ukraine’s Victory.

War has many symbols. One of the most powerful is the hands of a medic. They stop the bleeding, restore breathing, support the wounded in their most difficult moments, and help them take their first steps on the road to recovery. Behind every such action stand years of training, immense responsibility, calm professionalism, and, above all, a profound commitment to saving human life. Today, Ukrainian medical professionals serve under conditions that few countries in the world have ever experienced. On the front line, at stabilization points, in operating rooms, military hospitals, and rehabilitation centres, they work where every decision can determine the fate of a human life. Amid explosions, after exhausting shifts, with no room for indifference or hesitation.

On 15 July, Ukraine marks the Day of Ukrainian Peacekeepers. For decades, Ukrainian service members have taken part in international peacekeeping operations, representing our country with distinction and contributing to the protection of peace, human life, and international security in different parts of the world. Today, Ukrainian warriors are carrying out, without exaggeration, the most important peacekeeping mission of all — defending their own country, their people, and the right of nations to live free from war. Their combat experience, professionalism, and resilience have become an example for armed forces around the world.

Sovereignty, independence, freedom, human dignity, and the rule of law are not merely principles. The National Defence University of Ukraine educates officers capable of meeting the challenges of modern warfare, making responsible decisions, leading their personnel, and faithfully serving the Ukrainian people. Today, for the first time, Ukraine marks the Day of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is the day of warriors who prove every day that superiority on the battlefield is born not only from courage, but also from knowledge, technology, creative thinking, and the ability to stay one step ahead of the enemy. The Unmanned Systems Forces have become one of the most striking examples of how the Ukrainian military is transforming modern warfare. Their effectiveness, ingenuity, and professionalism have already secured a place in military history, while Ukraine’s experience is being studied by partners around the world. Behind every successful operation stand people — operators, engineers, commanders, instructors, researchers, and developers who strengthen our nation’s defense capabilities every day and help save the lives of Ukrainian service members.

On January 29, we honor the heroic act that became a turning point in our national history. In January 1918, a group of young Ukrainians — cadets, students, and high school pupils — voluntarily stood against a vastly superior enemy. They lacked numbers and combat experience but possessed unbreakable determination to defend their state. Their choice was not about chances, but about dignity. And that is why it became a symbol for generations. Today, just like back then, Ukraine is fighting for its freedom. But now we are stronger: with an army that has experience and the trust of the people; with youth ready to defend; with officers who understand their responsibility not only on the battlefield, but also in everyday decisions.

On 23 January 2026, a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation took place between the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) and the National Defense University of Ukraine. The agreement establishes a framework for systematic collaboration in training military chaplains, including participation from the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Kyiv Three Holy Hierarchs Spiritual Seminary. The Memorandum was signed by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Head of the UGCC; Colonel General Mykhailo Koval, Head of the National Defense University of Ukraine; and Father Roman Ostrovskyi, Rector of the Kyiv Three Holy Hierarchs Spiritual Seminary.
