The International Forum “Professional Military Education: Theory, Practice, and Prospects”

On April 29, 2026, the National Defense University of Ukraine hosted the International Forum “Professional Military Education: Theory, Practice, and Prospects.”

The forum’s goal was to bring together experts in the field of professional military education to discuss issues related to the implementation of the Lessons Identified (LI) and Lessons Learned (LL) approaches in educational programs, leadership development, and the use of artificial intelligence as a tool to enhance the effectiveness of professional military education.

The forum focused primarily on four key areas:

Transformation of professional military education: examining the processes of adapting educational programs to NATO standards, integrating Ukraine’s unique combat experience into the educational process in real time, and developing the institutional capacity of military educational institutions.

Military Leadership: exploring models for developing adaptive leadership, the ethical dimensions of a commander’s actions, the development of critical and creative thinking, as well as the psychological aspects of personnel readiness to carry out combat missions.

Lessons Learned: examining mechanisms for collecting, analyzing, and incorporating combat experience into the military command and education systems to enhance the effectiveness of troop training.

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies: analysis of the prospects for using AI, analytical systems, and simulation technologies (VR/AR) in military education, as well as the ethical, legal, and organizational aspects of their application.
