- Ukraine Commemorates the Victims of the Holodomor
Ukraine honors the memory of the millions whose lives were destroyed and cut short during the Holodomors — one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century. The Holodomor of 1932–1933 was a deliberate act of genocide aimed at suppressing the Ukrainian nation, its will, and its identity.
Today, as Ukraine once again fights for its right to exist, this day reminds us of the price of freedom and the fact that the totalitarian regime that orchestrated the Holodomor is the predecessor of today’s Russian aggression. The attempt to destroy Ukrainians continues in new forms — through war, devastation, and terror against civilians.
The memory of the Holodomor is not only a tribute to the victims. It is our moral duty and a belief that truth and historical justice must be upheld. It is a reminder of the responsibility each of us bears — to preserve our statehood, strengthen our defense capabilities, resist the enemy, and build a strong Ukraine.
The National Defence University of Ukraine, together with the entire nation, commemorates the victims of the Holodomors. We light a candle of remembrance as a symbol of the resilience of our people, our history, and our strength.
Eternal memory to the victims of the Holodomors!
Glory to Ukraine!
Colonel General Mykhailo KOVAL
Commandant of the National Defence University of Ukraine
