Department of Military Law and Law Enforcement

The Department of Military Law and Law Enforcement is a structural unit of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Military History, Law, and Social Sciences, which conducts educational, methodological, scientific, and innovative activities in the interests of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine in relevant specialties (specializations) and areas of scientific research.

History of creation and development:

ІThe historical path of the department began in 1996 with its establishment at the National Defense Academy of Ukraine under the name “Department of Legal Support.” Subsequently, the department was part of the Faculty of Humanities for the training of specialists in humanitarian issues and the Institute of Humanities under the names “Department of Law” and “Department of Legal Support,” respectively.

Since 2009, the department has been training students in law for the qualification of “Master of Law, Military Officer of Operational-Tactical Level.” In 2018, the department additionally began training specialists at the operational-tactical level for the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, specializing in “Organization of Law Enforcement in the Armed Forces,” and since 2020, adjuncts in the scientific specialty 081 - Law. Subsequently, in 2023, the department became part of the Institute of Strategic Communications and changed its name to “Department of Military Law and Law Enforcement,” and since 2025, as a result of further organizational measures, it has become part of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Military History, Law, and Social Sciences.

The main achievements of the Department are:

  1. Opening and training specialists in the specialization “Organization of Law Enforcement in the Security and Defense Sector”;
  2. Opening an adjuncture and training specialists at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education in the scientific specialty D8 – Law;
  3. Participation of department officers in the forces and means of repelling Russian armed aggression.

Three doctors and three candidates of legal sciences are involved in the training of students and adjuncts within the department.

The main tasks of the department are:

  • Training of operational-level students in the specialty K6 “Supply of Troops (Forces)”; specializations: “Organization of Legal Support for Troops (Forces)”; “Organization of Law and Order in the Security and Defense Sector,” as well as training of future scientific and scientific-pedagogical specialists in the specialty D8 Law;
  • Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department participate in the training of specialists at the strategic and operational levels in all specialties and specializations of training at the university, students of professional military education and advanced training courses;
  • The educational process at the department is provided by a team of highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical workers who have scientific degrees and academic titles;
  • Participation in the development of draft regulatory and legal acts in the areas of educational and scientific activities of the department and conducting their legal expertise;
  • Participation in personal development through legal education of the department's staff in the spirit of respect for the Constitution of Ukraine, the establishment of leadership and moral values, social activity, civic position, and responsibility among participants in the educational process;
  • Conducting scientific, scientific-technical, and innovative activities in the interests of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine by conducting scientific research and ensuring the creative activity of participants in the educational process, training highly qualified scientific personnel, and using the results obtained in the educational process of the university.
