The history of the department begins in July 2000 with the first recruitment of communication specialists, automated control systems and radio technical support of aviation, which was held at the Department of Communication Organization, Automated Control Systems and Radio Technical Support of Aviation of the National Defense Academy of Ukraine.
The Department of Radio Technical and Special Troops, as a separate structural unit, was created on March 1, 2010 as part of the Aviation and Air Defense Institute on the basis of the Air Force Department during reorganization at the National Defense University of Ukraine.
The structure of the department has signs of structural formation with a full cycle of training of military specialists of radio technical troops and communication troops, cyber security and radio technical support for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations. It allows to cover all types of educational, scientific and methodical activities regarding the development of the theory and practice of their preparation, application and supporting./p>
The main tasks of the department are:
- training of military specialists for obtaining Master degree in specialty 253 “Military Administration (by Branches of the Armed Forces)” specialization “Combat Employment and Management of Operations of Radio-Technical Troops”, in specialty 254 “Logistic Support Organization of Troops (Forces)” specializations “Organization of Maintenance and Service of Armament and Military Equipment of Radio-Technical Troops” and “Organization of Communications, Automatization of Control and Radio-Technical Support” for the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military units of the state;
- participation in training of specialists at higher academic courses, advanced training courses and professional level;
- conducting scientific activities;
- creating (improving) legal and regulatory framework and material and technical resources for supporting educational activities;
- providing cultural and intellectual development of personality, education of personnel in the spirit of patriotism and respect for Constitution of Ukraine.
The main and the most important achievements
The educational work of the department is aimed at the high-quality training of officers of the operational level of the Master degree.
In addition, the department participates in the training of specialists of all specialties and specializations of the operational level of the Air Force and the course training of officers on professional military education courses (command and staff course of the tactical level of the Air Force (L2) and advanced training courses).
Students are trained according to the standards of higher education, educational programs, curricula, educational discipline programs, that were developed taking into consideration the experience of local wars and armed conflicts, the participation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Anti-Terrorist operation, the United Forces operation, repelling the full-scale armed aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine, peacekeeping operations and taking into account NATO standards.
Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department combines classical teaching methods with innovative ones during classes. In the training of students, special attention is given to the systematicity and depth of assimilation of theoretical knowledge and mastering of practical skills by students, taking into account practical experience.
In the period from 2010 to 2023, the department had trained and graduated more than 150 officers for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other military formations, 8 of them with a diploma with honors and 4 with a diploma with honors and a gold medal.
The department's scientific activity кconsists of conducting researches aimed at solving the actual problems of training, combat use of radio-technical troops, communication troops, cyber security and radio-technical support and their management; operation of weapons and military equipment of radio technical forces, communication forces, cyber security and radio technical support; organization of communication, radio technical support and control automation. The scientific activity results are actively implemented by the department specialists in the educational process during the training sessions.
The scientific and pedagogical department's staff discuss the problems of training and application of radio-technical troops, communication troops, cyber security and radio-technical support and ways to solve them at annual scientific-practical seminars with the invitation of representatives of military administration (military units) and other higher military educational and scientific institutions. In addition, scientific and pedagogical staff and post graduate student-officers take an active part in scientific conferences and seminars in University and other scientific and higher educational institutions, including abroad.
The department's staff actively works on the preparation and publication of educational and methodological literature, monographs and scientific articles. During the department's existence, scientific and pedagogical staff has developed and published more than 50 textbooks and teaching aids.
During its existence, the department has carried out and implemented many scientific and research works in the practical activities of the troops and the educational process.
The school of the department's inventors prepared and received patents for more than 100 useful models and provided dozens of innovative proposals.
At the department, one of the most important components of scientific activity is the training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel.
The department's methodical activity is aimed at increasing the methodical skill of scientific and pedagogical staff, improving the methods, forms and technologies of conducting all types of educational activities, harmonizing the content of education with modern views on the use of the Armed Forces in local wars, armed conflicts, peacekeeping operations and taking into account the experience of Russian-Ukrainian war.
Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department develops and constantly refine the content of educational programs, curricula, programs (work programs) of educational disciplines, as well as regularly conduct instructional and methodological, demonstrative, open classes, share the experience of conducting educational classes, take part in pedagogical (methodical) experiments.
Conducted methodological measures contribute to the formation of unified views of scientific and pedagogical staff on the methodology of organizing and conducting all types of educational classes, developing educational and methodological materials, improving the methodology of conducting command and staff training with students, effective use and improvement of the educational material and technical base of the department.
At the department, special attention is given to improvement of the teaching staff pedagogical skill, the scientific level of teaching academic disciplines and ensuring a high-quality approach to the training of students, forming their skills to act creatively, professionally perform their official tasks.
The department's long-term experience in training specialists for radio-technical forces and communication forces, cyber security and radio-technical support shows that the department of radio-technical and special forces is a unit that actively participates in ensuring the state's defense capability through the formation of human capital by training highly qualified specialists for security and defense sector in line with NATO's best education standards and practices and ready for future challenges.
