The Department of Technical Support is a structural unit of the Institute of Logistics and Troop (Force) Support of the National Defense University of Ukraine. It carries out educational, methodological, scientific, and scientific-technical activities in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Department History

The Department of Technical Support began its modern history alongside the development of the capabilities of the Armed Forces Academy of Ukraine in 1994.

On April 1, 1994, by the decision of the Certification Commission of the Armed Forces Academy of Ukraine, the first Head of the Department was appointed - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, General Mykola Shaptalenko.

This marked the beginning of a challenging phase of building the scientific and academic potential of the department, developing the first Ukrainian-language textbooks, and establishing the educational and material base.

The department conducted significant work in the training of scientific and academic personnel. In particular, from 1993 to 2004, the department prepared and defended six dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Military and Technical Sciences and one dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences.

Since 2004, the Department of Technical Support has been structurally part of the Faculty of Operational Support and Logistics of the National Defense Academy of Ukraine.

In 2010, the National Defense Academy of Ukraine was reformed into the National Defense University of Ukraine, with the Institute of Operational Support and Logistics established as one of its structural units. Within this institute, the Department of Technical Support was created based on the subject-methodical commission for technical support of the Land Forces under the former Department of Logistics, which had been disbanded.

As of September 1, 2019, the Department of Technical Support became part of the Institute of Troop (Force) Support and Information Technologies. In accordance with the directive of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this institute was reorganized into the Institute of Logistics and Troop (Force) Support on March 1, 2023.

About the Department

The Department of Technical Support provides training for highly qualified military specialists at the second (master's) level of higher education for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other military formations established in accordance with the laws of Ukraine. The training is conducted in the field of knowledge K “Military Sciences, National Security, State Border Security,” in the specialty K6 “Troop (Force) Support,” leading to the educational qualification of “Master of Troop (Force) Support” and the professional qualification of “Professional in the Field of Troop (Force) Support, Operational-Level Officer.”

The department also offers doctoral (PhD) training in the specialties K6 “Troop (Force) Support” and K7 “Armament and Military Equipment.”

The personnel of the department have experience in carrying out combat (special) missions during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (Joint Forces Operation), the large-scale armed aggression of the russian federation, and international peacekeeping operations.
