The Department of Missile Troops and Artillery is a structural unit of the Command and Staff Institute of the Use of Troops (Forces) of the National Defense University of Ukraine, which carries out educational, scientific and technical activities.

The Department of Missile Troops and Artillery is intendent for the implementation of educational, scientific, and scientific and technical activities with the aim of obtaining a full higher education by military specialists of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other executive authorities, who are involved in the performance of tasks in the interests of national security and defense in peacetime and in a special period.

The main tasks of the department are:

  • implementation of educational activities that ensure the training of military specialists of the appropriate degree of higher education in various specialties;
  • training of military specialists of the second (master's) level of higher education in the specialty 253 "Military management (by types of armed forces)", specialization "Combat use and control of actions of military units of missile forces and artillery" for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations of Ukraine;
  • participation in the training of military specialists of the strategic and operational levels of military education for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations of the state, participation in retraining and advanced training;
  • conducting scientific, scientific-technical and innovative activities in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine by conducting scientific research and ensuring creative activity of participants in the educational process, training of highly qualified scientific personnel.

History of the Department's establishment and development

The Department of Missile Forces and Artillery, as an educational and scientific unit of the Academy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (The National Defense University of Ukraine), began to function on August 11, 1993. According to the decision of the Department's meeting (protocol of September 26, 1997, No. 2), the day of the first class with the Academy's students was considered the day of the Department's day. The class was held on September 14, 1994.

Main achievements and most significant achievements
Educatuinal

During its existence, the department has prepared more than five hundred specialists of operational, strategic and tactical level. Among them are 7 officers who graduated with honors and a gold medal. More than 60 graduated with honors.

Scientific

The department carries out systematic training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel. During its existence, a scientific school was created and successfully functions at the department. Almost every year, a significant event takes place at the department - the defense of a dissertation for obtaining a scientific degree.

During period from 1996 to 2023, the department prepared: 3 doctors of military sciences, 42 candidates of sciences, and 4 doctors of philosophy.

Scientists prepared by the department carry out further activities at the National Defense University of Ukraine, the National Academy of Land Forces named after hetman Petro Sagaidachny, the Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Central Research Institute of Armaments and Military Equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Research Center of Missile Troops and Artillery and in other institutions and educational institutions.

Total 11, including:

  • Doctor of Military Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine - 1;
  • Candidate of Military Sciences, Associate Professor - 5;
  • Candidate of Military Sciences, Senior Researcher - 1;
  • Doctor of Philosophy - 4.

The role of the Department of Missile Troops and Artillery in the system of training professional and scientific personnel is emphasized by the significant contribution of its graduates in the performance of tasks to protect Ukraine from russian aggression.
