The history of the Department of Air Force Logistics dates back to 1994, when the Kyiv Institute of the Air Force launched training programs for aviation logistics specialists at the operational-tactical level for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, within its Faculty of Logistics.

In July 2000, in accordance with a directive from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the Department of Aerodrome-Technical and Aviation Rear Support was established as part of the Faculty for Operational-Tactical Level Specialist Training of the Air Force at the National Defense Academy of Ukraine. In June 2002, it was renamed the Department of Aviation Technical and Aerodrome Support.

In September 2007, following a series of organizational reforms, the department was reorganized into the Subject-Methodological Commission on Technical and Rear Support of the Air Force, which became part of the Department of Logistics within the Operational-Tactical Faculty of the National Defense Academy of Ukraine.
